Having grown up in the countryside of Northern Bavaria, cows were a frequent sight in my youth. But livestock farming was changing and soon dairy cows were almost entirely raised and held inside. The heartwarming sight of cattle grazing peacefully in green paddocks I enjoyed so much when emigrating to New Zealand, had become a rarity in Germany.
