I. E HOKI MAI RA (560mm x 675mm) Edition 30 in total
(The Home-Coming)
The journey of the Maori is seen by many as the return to the land where they come from. The bond to papatuanuku (mother earth) is strongest for women. Red is the colour of blood and earth – the tapu colour for Maori people. Women are the most vulnerable and carry the sees of the spirit. Men who have lost the bond to papatuanuku can regain it in togetherness with women.

II. TE AO MARAMA (495mm x 580mm) Edition 30 in total
(The world of light)
There is a strong bond in Maoridom with this “world of light” - the spiritual homeland we are all heading for. Back home at the Marae (meeting house) one is sheltered in the body of an ancestor.
The patterns here represent the ancestor’s moko (trad. facial tattoo). Women use flax to weave whariki (mats) for the Marae which are of great significance.

III, HE KAKATAI
(500mm x 920mm Edition 30 in total)
The wairua (spirit) of the unborn is tapu and the true miracle of life. In Maoridom the birth of a child is seen as a “passing on” of the ancestral seed, when women are one with the stars of the universe. Kakatai - the blue heron is the sacred bird accompanying childbirth.

(380mm x 760mm Edition 30 in total)
This is the Maori expression for the time of the day when the sun sets at the start of
the evening. It is a particularly peaceful moment of the day.
